Gemayel: Kataeb should have ‘significant’ representation in new cabinet
September 26, 2009

Kataeb Party leader Amin Gemayel told LBC television on Saturday that Kataeb bloc MPs stressed its significant role in the majority during their meeting with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri on Friday, adding they did not discuss names of ministerial candidates or the portfolios within the bloc’s share.

Gemayel also said Hariri’s first cabinet lineup was unfair to the March 14 alliance, especially the Kataeb Party, reiterating their previous statement that the “Christian role” played a huge part in the Cedar revolution and must be taken into serious consideration when forming the new government.

“We present Hariri with the ‘The Martyr Pierre Gemayel Project’ and Tourism Minister Elie Marouni’s plan to prove that the party’s ministers work seriously,” said Gemayel, although he did not elaborate on either projects.

He commented on the possibility of a technocrat cabinet, saying that “there are no technocrats in Lebanon because everyone is politically affiliated.”
