Komati: Jumblatt wants death and destruction
February 11, 2008

Over the weekend, MP Walid Jumblatt launched an outspoken verbal assault on the opposition, warning that his side is ready for war.

Hezbollah Politburo Vice President Mahmud Komati said that Jumblatt’s statement was a “crazy one, disconnected from rationality and politics.”

“You want disorder? It will be welcomed. You want war? It will be welcomed. We have no problem with weapons, no problem with missiles. We will take them from you,” Jumblatt said at a news conference, declaring that it is up to the opposition to decide whether it wants peace or war.

“He wants to kill and destroy and to make the families of the four generals arrested for Hariri’s assassination spit blood,” Komati said in reference to Jumblatt’s claim that the generals’ families will cry tears of blood when their relatives are sentenced by the Special Tribunal.

Komati said that the pro-government party has been making threats and voicing its readiness for war.

“When we see an ant threatening a lion, we wonder what it is counting on and what it wants. From what direction is it pressing on the lion?” Komati said, hinting at Jumblatt’s criticism of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

He also asked why March 14 is trying to use ex-Premier Rafik Hariri as its figurehead, while he used to present himself as a national leader.

Komati said that the opposition and Hezbollah have been patient for a long time, but that this patience has a limit.

“We are the strongest and the most capable, and we have the greatest patience,” he said. “But beware not to cross the boundaries,” he warned.

“It is not only on our account that Lebanon be preserved, that civil peace and the standing of the Lebanese army and security forces be maintained,” he added.

“Beware of our anger and the decisions we may make. When we say we are going to the street, snipers and hired assassins will not deter us,” he added.
