Deputy Speaker Farid Makari on Tuesday said that reviving “the language of mistrust and treachery” in light of the controversy over the Resistance’s weapons only aimed at impeding the ministerial statement formation and the election process in 2009, which Makari said would decide Lebanon’s fate and sovereignty.
He added that the March 8 alliance’s main goal was to consecrate “Hezbollah’s state” as parallel to, or even as competing against, the Lebanese state.
“Nobody is saying that Hezbollah is terrorist, but we cannot accept that weapons be used on the streets and in political processes,” Makari commented.
He added that no one wanted to strip the Resistance of its cause, but noted that Hezbollah’s arms could not be directed against Lebanese political parties that rejected the Syrian-Iranian agenda.
Makari also said that all Lebanese, without exception, supported the Resistance and were proud of its achievements. Without this support, he continued, the Resistance would have not reached its goals and hence, only public and national support would ensure its legitimacy.
“The Resistance should work according to a national agenda, not as a political or confessional party. This would lead all Lebanese people to adopt and consecrate its approach,” he concluded.
