Hezbollah meets with SSNP, says visits by US officials are suspicious
October 16, 2008

Hezbollah Political Council leader Ibrahim Amin al-Sayyed called for “responsibly facing the coming period and challenges.”  He said that enemies would continuously threaten Lebanon, whether through Israel or directly “through American policy in Lebanon.”

Sayyed met with the Syrian Socialist National Party on Thursday, and said it was “suspicious” to have successive US security officials visiting Lebanon. He warned that the “Americans, who had previously prepared fires in Lebanon, were preparing new ones,” and he called on the Lebanese to be careful not to fall into the “trap of words and American titles, suggested in the current period, which are intended to change Lebanon into chaos… in acquiescence to American requests and not to ensure Lebanese national security.”

Sayyed welcomed the establishment of Lebanese-Syrian diplomatic relations, which, he said, was in both countries’ interests.  SSNP in Lebanon leader Asaad Hardan said that the wisdom of the opposition leaders was united in refusing to be dragged into “traps,” and instead to lead Lebanon toward a new period of national safety. He called on the majority to stop listening to foreign advice, which, he said would lead to the collapse of whoever followed it.
