Future bloc MP Samir al-Jisr said that he feared assassinations and security incidents would muddle the International Tribunal’s work and monopolize people’s decisions before the 2009 parliamentary elections.
During meetings with popular delegations, Jisr said that March 14 expectations that assassinations would take place were general expectations, and different from Marada leader Sleiman Franjieh’s opinion that an assassination similar to Hariri’s would happen.
Jisr said that it was crucial to hold elections on time to redistribute power and end all dispute about the majority.
He said that victories achieved by March 14 in the student and syndicate elections were a source of fear for March 8 because the students and syndicates influence public opinion.
Jisr called for speeding up judicial appointments and relying on credibility and honesty aside from political interests.
