The US Commander in Iraq arrived in Beirut on Wednesday on an unannounced visit. General David Petraeus met with President Michel Sleiman, PM Fouad Siniora and Defense Minister Elias al-Murr. He also held talks with his Lebanese counterpart on US support for the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Minister of State for Administrative Reform Ibrahim Shamseddine said he is confident the state can be the protector of Lebanon, adding that as long as there is occupation, there must be resistance. He also said that the ministerial statement will bring calm and peace to people’s lives.
